EPS

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) is a closed cell, lightweight, rigid foam plastic. EPS is also commonly known as Styrofoam. It is composed of carbon and hydrogen molecules, which is derived from petroleum and natural gas by-products.

Molded EPS

Molded EPS is non-toxic and no chlorofluorcarbons, usually referred to as CFCs, are used in the production. EPS is environmentally friendly. Due to its strength and excellent insulation value, less material is needed. Less energy is used in the manufacturing compared to alternative materials. EPS does not support microbiological growth.

Properties

EPS has properties of low thermal conductivity, high compressive strength, and excellent shock absorption properties which makes it an ideal material for an insulating concrete forming system. EPS foam is also the material commonly found in protective cushion pads for computers, and other electronic equipment.

Environmental
Safety

EPS has no nutritional value to support fungal, bacteriological or animal growth. This makes it an ideal material for food packaging. EPS is also non-toxic and inert, and contains no chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) or hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs).

Lightweight

EPS is made of 98% air, making it one of the lightest packaging materials. EPS adds therefore very little to the weight of the packaging.

Durable

The exceptional durability of EPS makes it an effective and reliable protective packaging for a wide range of goods. The cellular structure of EPS makes it dimensionally stable and therefore does not deteriorate with age.

Versatile

EPS can be manufactured in a wider range of shapes and sizes than other materials. It is also compatible with cement, concrete, brick, masonry, mortars and plaster. EPS can be custom-shaped to protect all kinds of products. This reduces the amount of packaging required, resulting in savings on space, distribution and damaged-goods costs.

Recyclable

Expanded Polystyrene is 100% recyclable and reusable.

Insulation
capacity

The thermal insulating properties of EPS helps keep food fresh and prevent condensation throughout the distribution chain.

Ease of transport
and installations

Because EPS is lightweight, it is easy to transport and saves fuel resources during transportation. EPS is also easy to handle, store and install, and does not require wear of protective clothing.
